The Sundays – Live in Köln

Monday, August 17th, 2009

The Sundays revival is now in full swing, as you can see … I actually meant to rip just one show and then I got carried away (by Harriet’s voice of course ;-) If you own some live recording of The Sundays please, please share.

This show was a bit tricky to rip. I own two different recordings of it, and none of them is complete. So what I did was rip the best recording and then added the missing tracks (tracks 8, 9 and 10) from the second recording which is unfortunatelly of a lesser audio quality. But at least this way the show is complete.

Artist: The Sundays
City: Köln (Germany)
Venue: Luxor
Date: March 16, 1990

Tracklist:

01: Here’s Where The Story Ends
02: I Won
03: I Kicked A Boy
04: A Certain Someone
05: Joy
06: What Do You Think?
07: Skin & Bones
08: Something More
09: My Finest Hour
10: Hideous Towns
11: Turkish
12: Can’t Be Sure

The Sundays – Live in Manchester

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

This is a show that I received back in my high-school days when me and a friend of mine used to run a live tapes trading list. This Manchester recording of The Sundays came from a trading list called ‘Lost At C’. The sound isn’t as good as my own recording of The Sundays in Brussels but it’s still very good and enjoyable.

NB: track 7 is called ‘Something More’, you’ll need to add the title yourself because I forgot to do it before uploading the archive to Mediafire.

Artist: The Sundays
City: Manchester (UK)
Venue: International

The Sundays – Live in Bruxelles

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

“And it’s you and me in the summertime,
We’ll be hand in hand down in the park,
With a squeeze and a sigh and that twinkle in your eye,

And all the sunshine banishes the dark.”

- Summertime (1997)

Ah! Me and Harriet in the summertime… Although this show happened in March and at that time of the year Belgium can be rather cold.

The sound of this recording could have been even better but I wanted to stand as close as I could to Harriet … and so did much of the male audience that evening :D Since then I always wondered how many break-ups Harriet Wheeler was responsible for?

There are a lot of live videos of The Sundays on ComeBackHarriet, especially a terrific version of the song ‘Goodbye‘. Sadly I don’t think they’ll ever make a come back …

Anyway, I hope you’ll enjoy this show as much as I did. There’s a couple of songs unknown to me, so if you can help with the titles please leave a comment or email me.

Update (17/8): many thanks to ComeBackHarriet for the missing titles’ names :) Don’t forget to add them when you open the file (tracks 7 & 13).

Indie Pop Compilations

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Since the early 90’s I have been collecting my favourite songs from records that I come across to make compilations that could be listened to when I’m on the move. I started making those compilations on C-90 cassettes (I did 32 of those) and since 2001 I switched to CD-R. Now I also started encoding these compilations in MP3 since I’m mostly using public transports to go to work and an MP3 player is almost essential to forget the long commuting times. And sharing music with friends is now even easier with file hosting sites like Rapidshare and others. There’s no need to duplicate tapes or CD’s anymore.

Anyway, my point is that I have uploaded some of the latest compilations on Mediafire. If anyone wants to have a listen just follow the links here below. If you want the list of tracks of each compilation before downloading, simply send me an email with the title ‘Compilation Tracklisting’, and I’ll email you back with the list. Each compilation collects songs from the late 80’s to the present day, with an emphasis on indie stuff but not only (can Sigur Ros or Sufjan Stevens be considered indie?) Also, the songs are encoded in 160 kbs so that each compilation’s size is just under 100 MB. Not the best quality I know, but enough for an MP3 player I think. And, finally, the latest compilation dates back as you can see from winter 2007. I haven’t been able to make any since then due to a hectic work schedule this past year (I’ve changed employer 4 times since September 2008!!) I’ll try to catch up this year, good music never ages anyway :)

. Compilation #13 (winter 2005) [20 tracks] download

. Compilation #26 (summer 2007) [18 tracks] download

. Compilation #27 (autumn 2007) [20 tracks] download

. Compilation #28 (winter 2007) [24 tracks] download

PS: English is not my first language, so the selection of songs is based mostly on music and melody, and more rarely on the lyrical content. Usually great sounding songs have clever or at least interesting lyrics, but not always, and tastes differ from one person to another. If you think that I’ve missed a great song on an album don’t hesitate to let me know.
