Alkaline was fronted by Connie Lovatt (Containe, Pacific Ocean). This is a really fine release, produced by Richard Baluyut. If you like Versus or Containe, then you should enjoy this single.

I once sent money to Fluff but never got any records in return The reason seems to be that they had moved away, so my order never reached the person it was supposed to. The Internet is a truly magical tool, almost 14 years later I now know what happened! Anyway, the Fluff releases that I own (Hood, Aspidistra) were therefore bought from various mailorder lists. Fortunately these records were worth buying a second time.

This single by Liechtenstein Girl is noisy and lo-fi enough to please fans of the Becketts, Hood or some kind of Times New Viking sped up at 78 rpm!

On this day, November 11th, I thought one song on this record was appropriate. ‘Anthem for Doomed Youth’ is based on a poem written in 1917 by British soldier Wilfred Owen. It is sung here by John Lombardo, who also wrote the music and the lyrics.

These are the original songs as they appeared on the 12″, not the remastered versions of the ‘Hope Chest’ CD. Despite their (slight) flaws, I think they sound more honest and authentic this way.
