Interview of Nicola Hodgkinson (from Boyracer) and Justine Wolfenden (from Hemiola Records) by John Peel in August 1994. I left this recording as it is on the tape, with songs by Boyracer and Gag at the end.

Daisy Hill Puppy Farm – Spraycan 12”

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

If it wasn’t for the Indie MP3 blog I would have never heard of this Icelandic band. So I was thrilled to find this 12″ at a flea market last year (crate digging, yes I know, but sometimes I just can’t help it).

The a-side reminded me of early Telescopes songs while the b-side truly sounds like outtakes from the Jesus & Mary Chain ‘Automatic’ album! Nothing truly original but it’s still a record worth owning if you can find a cheap copy like I did.

Artist: Daisy Hill Puppy Farm
Title: Spraycan
Format: 12″
Label: Lakeland Records
Cat. Num.: LKND 009
Date: 1989

Tracklist:

Side a1: Young Blood
Side a2: Spraycan

Side b1: Crusher
Side b2: 17

13 reasons why you should not go crate digging. And the depressing thing is … it’s all true!

>Harper Lee – Dry Land 7"

Friday, September 12th, 2008

>

A couple of weeks ago I was listening to Harper Lee’s ‘All Things Can Be Mended’ album and I thought that I should post their first single released on Matinée Recordings. The band’s bio will tell you that Keris Howard previously played in Brighter and that Laura Bridge played in Hood. Crossing both talents results in a music not far from what Brighter sounded like.

Artist: Harper Lee
Title: Dry Land
Format: 7″ single
Label: Matinée Recordings
Cat. Num.: #014
Date: 1999

Side a: Dry Land
Side b: No Happy Ending

>Boyracer – Electricity 7" Flexi Disc

Friday, September 5th, 2008

>

This flexi came free if you bought the vinyl version of Boyracer’s ‘We Are Made Of The Same Wood’ album on A Turntable Friend Records. The CD came out on Slumberland Records.

The first track is an OMD cover recorded for a radio session in October 1994. The second track was recorded live in Washington on the same day.

Flexi sound is what it is, so, as Ulrich of ATF wrote: it sounds best … on cheap fidelity equipment!

Tracklist:

Side a1: Electricity

Side a2: Sex (live)
